OCHI: “I guess I’m just genetically blessed”, says Shilpa Shetty on her well toned body.
You did a vamp act for the International Indian Film Academy awards night. Are you a seductress in real life?
Not really. In fact, I don’t think I need to. I don’t try too hard to seduce anyone.
You’re considered to have the best body in the industry. Ever seriously thought about that?
Yeah, I often wonder what they’re thinking of when they say that. It’s now become a status symbol to hit the gym. But in my case, I guess I’m just genetically blessed.
So who do you think has a better body?
Shiamak’s troupe dancer Anisha has an amazing body. Technically speaking, my sister Shamita has a more ribbed physique.
What’s your secret?
I have no workout regime, except for baithaks and plunges. Even those I haven’t done in the last nine months. And I just love to eat. The one indulgence I have that is really fattening is chocolates. Since I suffer from low blood pressure, I have to keep popping them.
You’re famous for your item numbers. After Cannes, it looks like you’re better known for your performances than acting.
I don’t understand why they are termed item numbers. They are just songs that become more famous than the others. I love dancing, but I always wanted to do a mujra number. Finally, I’ve done that for Cannes in the song Pyar kiya to darna kya from Mughal-e-Azam.
Heard you’re playing a bar dancer in your new film Sangar?
Yes, it’s this cop drama, not like Chandni Bar. I play this Muslim bar dancer Jannat. She’s this decent good person who loves a cop unconditionally; she’d give up anything for him.
What about you, do you love so unconditionally?
I’m not such a Good Samaritan. But my parents have inculcated good beliefs in both of us.
